However, if you are an undergraduate student interested in sustainability-related research, you can still connect with a graduate student for a one-on-one drop-in chat to ask your questions, get advice and discover what opportunities exist in the world of sustainability research.

Nevertheless, if you are looking for a longer-term mentorship opportunity, McGill’s Career Planning Services offers a mentorship program allowing you to connect with a mentor working in an industry of your interest. 

As an undergraduate student at McGill University, it can be difficult to navigate the world of research and academia, especially in areas which lack formal research programs.

In collaboration with the Sustainability Research Symposium (SRS) and the McGill Sustainability Systems Initiative (MSSI), the RSN created the Sustainability Mentorship Program to bridge the gap between prospective students and sustainability research.

The mentorship program connects graduate-level students currently pursuing sustainability research (mentors) with undergraduate students that are interested in sustainability academia (mentees). Over the course of a semester, each pairing of mentor and mentee can exchange experiences and concerns they have about topics such as: doing research, the incorporation of sustainability into their research, and the issues they have faced in their research. By opening up a dialogue between undergraduates and researchers, the RSN hopes to better equip students with the skills and experience necessary to break into sustainability academia.
